So, it is the Monday after Thanksgiving. Who else is feeling all ughhhhh? I feel ya. We are kindred.
Anyhow, we are all here and woke up today so yeah, we are good! Today I decided to write a little bit about nutrition. If you know me, you know that I have issues losing weight. Because I have no thyroid and have PCOS I can pick up weight quickly. I also have a bit of an issue with gluten. It is easy to understand with all of that and an ankle injury, I gained 25 pounds in a 14 month period.
Being the brilliant person I am😁, I decided to stop gluten and eat very low carb except some rice and veggies, and this amazing idea started over the holiday. It would have been so much easier to wait until today to start eating better!!! But, I was determined and decided enough was enough. And when it comes to our bodies and what they are telling us, we should never put off or be cavalier about healthy living.
We spent our weekend in NYC with D and met up with my friend Lauren from Literary Dates http://literary-dates.com because I have gotten to know her pretty well over the last year and a half and we decided to link up because we hadn’t seen each other since May. So, to support her veg lifestyle and our overall love for veggie restaurants, we skipped our chicken spot and we ate some yummy healthy food. My dish is pictured below.
So, even though the chicken place we had planned to go to sounded totally bomb, we made the decision to make a better choice. http://www.peacefoodcafe.com/
Motivation for your Monday, is to start TODAY to better yourself.
And remember that it is not easy! Nothing worth having ever is. Even healthy restaurants have temptations. I totally wanted fries and the veg burger that my kiddo got, but I got a quinoa salad (hindsight I should have gotten more protein because of PCOS, but that is for another post). And trust me it was very hard to not get the burger because of the amazeballs looking focaccia. But I woke up 2 weeks ago, and was like- no more food that is not good for me. Or at least I will avoid those foods as much as I can that upset my conditions, as much as possible. I wasn’t a terrible eater by any means but like anyone, I had cravings. For me, tortilla chips were the culprit. But they are just not something I can eat very often if I truly want to consider what is best for my fitness level and well being.
When it comes to health, there really is no time like the present. Of course treating oneself to a Hershey’s kiss or 2 is fine (or whatever your snack is), but if you’re like me and want to eat 22, that is not a good idea no matter what your health is like. We all have things we can and need to work on and everyone is different and has various reasons for eating in the way that they do and it is not always solely for weight loss.
So, a message to you and a note to self, get Motivated! Work on being healthier or happier or whatever it is that you have been pushing to the side. If you begin your quest now, the next holiday or special occasion will be even sweeter because you can also celebrate your progress and you will feel better and have a sense of pride that you made positive changes. I already see a change in inflammation just from reducing gluten. The scale will be the next victory! Shoot me a message or email and let me know what you are working on healthwise.
Hope you all had a fab Thanksgiving and good luck!
