So, I was passing out info for an event and saw this cool doormat. It spoke to me. A lot. I have tried so hard to keep a positive attitude and want to be happy everyday, but it’s difficult!
I feel that I am constantly on this hamster wheel of trying to make ends meet and there is one thing after another that sets me back. This week, my car is being weird and doesn’t start, but it is intermittent so I have to pay to find out what the deal is.
And I’m not a pessimist or someone who complains and doesn’t try to make a situation better. I walked dogs before and after working 8 hours yesterday and then drove around for 2 and 1/2 hours delivering food last night. So I clearly do what I can to make my situation better.
But then I see things on blog posts or social media that makes me kind of annoyed. It’s not that I don’t think that other people deserve blessings but I want a lucky break. I saw yesterday how someone was given a Benz by their employer and the person is barely an adult! I was happy for them, but kind of bitter that some people just seem to fall into fortune. I do stellar work on all of my jobs and I didn’t even get a Mother’s Day card!
Do you ever feel aggravated about the breaks you haven’t been given? Do you know people who seem to have been given everything and take it for granted? I do!! I just want my financial situation to reflect all or some of the hard work I put in. Of course I haven’t been able to put as much time in my career raising a child alone, but I do whatever I can to make it. I am praying that it will one day pay off.
So these are some things I am doing to do to change my mood funk or feeling that I have been cheated somehow. Maybe we can all do it together, that is if you are feeling a little less than appreciated or blessed or happy.
1. Count your blessings- This is obvious to most of us. But it is a basic thing that we can all do that will really make us aware of how much we have going for us. No I have never been wealthy. But I have probably the best man that anyone could ever have in their life and a hard-working and super talented daughter whom is happy and healthy. What I lack in finances or major accomplishments, I have an abundance of love in my little family. I am sure that you all have things to be thankful for too. Waking up today is probably the biggest things to put on the list.
2. Compare your situation to others- I know what you’re thinking, wouldn’t comparing your situation with someone else make you feel worse? Well sometimes that can be true. But, it doesn’t take a lot of time to look around and find someone in a situation that is not as good as yours. Where to find someone that would love to have the things that you have no matter how small. For example, I not only have my guy and my fabulous daughter my mom is still around and she’s been a tremendous help in my life. You get the point, comparison is usually not a good thing, but it can bring some real perspective.
3. Speak positive things into existence –This is the one that I have the hardest time with. I try to do positive affirmations for my situation, myself and my relationship. But what I need the most help with is doing it for myself and focusing on how I feel about me. Negative self-talk can make whatever we are concerned about become reality. Many people believe that you are what you say. If you say that you’re fat for example, even if those words are exaggerated and you’re not truly that thing, you may end up being that because it is what you believe. So why work against it? Because it is inevitable (in your eyes). You have already convinced yourself, so improving yourself or situation will seem like a waste of time. But if you say good things and treat yourself kindly and have a positive outlook, those good actions or thoughts may manifest.
These are things I try to do daily while looking around and seeing what the Joneses have and are doing compared to my life. I am grateful, but I am human and I, like many other people, want to do better and feel like I have more to be proud of. I also want my daughter and my partner to be proud of me also. Most importantly, I want to acknowledge what I have accomplished, but keep working towards being better in all areas of my life. I think that these three actions can make a difference, and even when I’m at my lowest they help. I hope that you’re able to gain something from these steps 🙂
