Emotions
Writing is exciting until emotions flood in
Then I must pause, take a beat and begin again
When I write these words
I simply do not want to sound absurd
Or too obtuse because poetry is to be deep, not fodder for abuse
Lying down one’s feelings is akin to standing there nude
With judging eyes and minds, people can be so rude
Instead, I write what is safe, plucking out the edges of raw emotion
Though my mind and thoughts are so vast, enough to fill an ocean
Humans don’t want truth
They would rather hear lies tied up in a bow
I find it hard to pretend, but I keep in my pain and stifle woes
If only I could let it all out on paper, all of my pens would run dry
To tell my innermost self it is okay
To yell, be vulnerable and cry
To be a normal person: “I am fine”
It sounds so surface and honestly divine
But I lead with “I’m okay”
Because it is better than running away
These half truths hurt less
Telling part of my mess
Reserved is not a verb I understand
Putting it out there is in my design,
who I truly am
