So is social media a top priority as a writer?

So, if one blogs to share innermost feelings and opinions, does it translate well outside of the blogosphere? Really? Even if the writing style is lighter in nature, does it work out there in the competitive realm that is the modern version of having friends, called social media?

I am asking because I notice as a writer that writing is not as supported on some social media platforms as much as photography or art may be. I know Twitter has writing communities, but one must bend backwards to gain traction or join 100 follow trains. Bloggers, what say you? How do you promote your blog and projects?

I truly believe that blogs can inspire and make a real difference. For the most part, unlike social media, they offer more depth and less vanity. There is a realness to blogging that cannot be duplicated in other mediums.

What do you all think? Do you feel that there is a richness in real writing that is lacking in “microwave socializing” apps? Do not get me wrong, I enjoy social apps but do not feel the satisfaction I do when reading or writing in longform.

Let me hear from you!

**It is not that I do not want to converse with other writers, but between full time work, my teen, my cat and best guy D, and my private social media there is little time to spare.

I have tons of education and don't use it! I am non-traditional and traditional rolled into one person. I am a Christian, but need work! I am conservative fiscally, but I could care less who someone marries. My favorite things to do are: hang out with my kid, watch movies, read, write, sing, dance, love, live life to the fullest! I love: my kid, my cat, my best guy D, God, rain, chocolate, Christmas, friends, cats, animals in general, honesty, avocados, love, Hallmark channel, iced coffee, Harry Potter, NYC, England, Italy, D.C., Paris and autumn.

  1. I’ve realised this after releasing my first novel, and have since learned that writing is not the end all be all. Marketing is important too, which is why a good social media following is always helpful. I personally enjoy engaging on WordPress, so I try to grow my audience here. But it’s always good to diversify!

  2. I really agree with you that blogging has such great vibes and it’s long form writing, so it’s easier for writers to connect with other writers. I started blogging regularly in the spring of 2021 and my blog grew by 1,000 followers. It’s really just about sticking with it, posting regularly, and also reading other people’s blogs. I think engagement really helps with networking and helping others find your blog.
