What does it mean to be a kid at heart?
So, something about me, I have quite a bit of trials, but who hasn’t once your 40 and over? But one thing about me, I am always pleasant and happy-go-lucky and smiling with anyone I meet. Except in situations when I am wrongfully provoked and let’s say I am less than a peach then:). I digress, but I think my happiness and the desire to find/see/look for beauty in every day interactions, gives off a youthlike vibe or innocence. And I have never stopped feeling like a kid because I find joy in little things.
People often mistake me for someone 10 to 14 years younger, quite regularly. And that is a compliment as a caucasian because with lack of melanin, our age process can be quicker. I do have good genes and don’t smoke or do drugs or abuse alcohol. And those are factors. But I am definitely convinced my spirit and attitude keeps me young.
I am the cool mom without trying too hard, my daughter thinks I am a pain, but her friends find me divine. I am open and honest with them without being weird or trying to be super young like the mom from Mean Girls. And it what it all boils down to is that I don’t let the responibilities of adult life and single parenthood and loss of my mom, etc., harm me.
I treat every day as a blessing even if I am stresssing. I am grateful though I am far from privileged like many of my friends are in this area. I am happy to be alive and have love and what I need. And being able to appreciate where you are can do wonders for your mental health, i.e., can give you the gift of the carefree feeling that being you gives. Even when there are underlying issues (there always are), being able to compartmentalize them works wonder for one’s psyche and outward appearance as well!
In summation:
1. SMILE
2. BE PLEASANT
3. TREAT YOURSELF AND OTHERS WELL
4. BE GRATEFUL
5. ENJOY WHERE YOU ARE IN LIFE (while working on improving)
6. FIND BEAUTY IN EVERYDAY EXPERIENCES
These steps are simple ways to maintain that fountain of youth. Oh, forgot one, never stop being willing to learn and grow.
