So picture this: a lady, a clarinet and tears – what a weird combination!

So, I put my lips on a clarinet for the 1st time in 30-plus years this past week. I have had this particular clarinet sitting around for maybe 10 years. When I was a teen, still in college, I sold my clarinet because I needed the money, and my mom and I weren’t speaking.

The pain of the rift with my mom, stopping something I loved and letting it go when I was so good at it, brought out all of the emotions. The thought of my mom no longer being here, not being in the college marching band, and that girl in the 90s being so lost brought out a lot that has been pent up.

But I blew warm air through it, got it to work a little (it definitely needs a tune up) and played a little ditty I learned in 5th grade. It is miraculous that those 4 notes and their pattern came out with no strain to remember.

This is a PSA- Do not put something off that you love for a long time due to fear of failure or fear of facing the past. Play, write, dance, and sing your heart out (or what makes your soul sing).Β  Because yes, life throws curveballs, but there are always moments of beauty and happiness sitting there. Even in a dusty old black rectangular box.

It is never too late to begin again…
