So, where do I start? The kiddo had a summer performing contract and did not come home after freshman year. I moved her out of her dorm in May from the Midwest and moved her stuff to DC. Nine days later, I moved her into her apt in the Midwest, a different state from her college.
In August, I moved her back to college from her summer job and moved more stuff from DC. October, I drove 18 hours in 2 days to bring her home from fall break. November, I stayed at her apt 2 nights and drove her back for Thanksgiving (Those 2 visits I was bringing things she said I forgot in Aug in a 3 state move!).
In Dec, she came home on a Fri, and 4 days later we flew to the UK and stayed for a week getting home on Christmas morning at like 2 am. A couple of days later, I went to urgent care and had 2 infections ( I was sick on our holiday). Then we celebrated her birthday, and I moved from DC to NY 1 week later.
So since May I have been running non-stop. Not to mention, I started a ft job from home in April, continued to work for old clients, and in the fall, took up contract work with the county that I will be going to DC a couple of months in the spring and fall to work on.
I have been a bit swamped! I got rid of about 40 percent of my material items to merge households with D. He has been so gracious to give up a room in his home for me and the kid and my kitty to have just our things. And he has allowed me to bring in antiques and my rug and other things, so it would be our home too.
Essentially, my life has turned upside down, and I am exhausted. After 2 decades plus in DC, a place I love dearly, I am doing something new. I miss my place, my neighborhood where my daughter spent her whole life, and the safety and serenity of life there.
But let’s face it. My talented kid will probably be booked and busy and will rarely live with me between college and her gigs. So why on earth would I stay in DC alone when I can have fun with D and start a new chapter?
As much as I wanted things to somewhat stay the same, nothing lasts forever. Even though I would love for my daughter to be with me when she is not in college. But she will prob be working and doing what she loves as a performer, and that is all I can ask for.
So my hiatus from prompts and writing is hopefully excused. 🙂
What have you been busy with? Email me or drop a note below. I truly wish to know. Happy New Year to you all and I hope you had a beautiful holiday season!
Just to let you know, I will forever be a DMV/DC girl. So the website will prob stay as is. Thanks for reading!
