What were your parents doing at your age?
So, my mom started working at a state/gov agency at 18. She went to a business school that taught people to type and do clerical jobs. She became a “stenographer”, typing 90 words a minute. This was a big deal back in the day. She retired after 3 decades, still fairly a young woman with 90 percent of her salary until she passed away in her late 70s.
She killed it careerwise because she moved up into management with a nice salary and no college stuff to pay off. But, she did little else. She did not travel a lot, or go to plays often or festivals because where she lived was kind of limited to an array of cultural activities. She stayed in the small town where I grew up and on to a smaller town with another marriage.
She missed a lot in the way of life experiences outside of her small town and though she did travel to probably 35 states, she never visited lots of countries, but she had richness in her community and many friends who held her in high regard. And that means a whole hell of a lot. She did not have a shortage of people to bond with and have coffee, donuts and conversation.
In essence, at my age she no longer had to work. She had close frienships and a feeling of contentment hanging with her dog, drinking her coffee and gabbing with her friends.
If I could have that, but add in my kid, cat and best guy, our 2 worlds would make 1 fantabulous life!
